I recently saw something that triggered some childhood memories. This thing I saw was a dot-to-dot book. To complete a dot-to-dot puzzle you need to start at #1, draw a line to #2; from 2 to 3, 3 to 4 etc. When all of the numbers had been connected correctly, you had drawn a picture. These were used to help children learn numbers in the proper sequence. Now there are dot-to-dot puzzles for adults with hundreds of numbers resulting in elaborate pictures.

As we begin a new year we have no idea what lies ahead for us. We make plans for summer vacations, future job promotions or family reunions, yet God has not promised us tomorrow. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. God hasn’t shined a lighthouse beacon that shows us what lies ahead in this new year. But He has given us His Word (the Bible) to show us one day at a time. The Bible shows us where to place our next step.

Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight”. As a Christian I know God has promised me Heaven when I die (John 3:16), but what about today? What do I do today when I am afraid or uncertain? How can I face tomorrow when I don’t know the struggles or pain that tomorrow may bring? God has the answer; “Today, trust Me.” Like the dot-to-dot I don’t have the full picture but God shows me the next number-one step at a time. Wake up every morning in this new year with this plan; “Today, I will trust Him”.
